Tips for Birding

In winter, bird activity is usually centered around the feeder at the Oakwoods Discovery Center. Please use this hotspot to report checklists for birds seen at the feeders of the Discovery Center.

Oakwoods Nature Preserve is excellent in spring and fall for warblers. The area at the base of the overlook and the outlet ditch between the two small fields on the west side of Shank Lake are frequently productive for bird watching. This preserve provides pretty standard birding in the summer and is notably quiet in the winter. In winter, activity is usually centered around the feeder at the Oakwoods Discovery Center.
