Adamsville Cemetery

Birds of Interest

Among USFWS-designated Birds of Conservation Concern for the Sonoran Desert, Gila Woodpecker and Curve-billed Thrasher appear on lists throughout the year, whereas Gilded Flicker appears on multiple summer lists, with Verdin on lists in all but winter months.

About this Location

The cemetery at the northwest corner of Plant and Adamsville Roads is the Butte View Cemetery. Abutting that, directly west, is undeveloped land in the northwest corner of which lies the Adamsville Cemetery.  The entrance to the latter, reached via a dirt drive, is about 100 yards north of Adamsville Road. Creosote and disturbed-area scrub, along with mesquite, are found throughout both cemeteries;  undeveloped paths lead from one to another and the total area covers somewhat over 10 acres. To the north and west of the cemeteries property are agricultural fields typically in cotton. Immediately south of Adamsville road, the land remains undeveloped. To the east, a housing development is being constructed (as of summer 2023), so it will be interesting to monitor species-frequency variations at the hotspot.
