Markert's Pond

Amherst, Massachusetts 01002

About this Location

Markert's Pond is part of the Fort River watershed and is fed by several streams. The pond was named after John Markert, a prominent local farmer who owned the land in the 19th century. The pond was once used as a source of ice for the nearby town of Belchertown, and some remnants of the ice harvesting industry can still be seen on the shore.

Markert's Pond is a small neighborhood pond and green space.
