Havelock--Rotary Park

Havelock--Rotary Park

Tips for Birding

This small park is certainly worth exploring. The variety of habitats likely attracts a good variety of both passerine and non-passerine species, as well as some waterfowl. Birding is probably best during spring and fall migrations and, as such, visits are best planned to coincide with these periods.

Birds of Interest

Still rather poorly known with fewer than 50 species currently recorded. While nothing of note has yet been observed in the park, the site has the potential to attract vagrants, like Great Egret.

About this Location

This is a small (12 ha) park located at the west end of Industrial Dr. in the southeast corner of Havelock. The park consists of a soccer field, playground, picnic area, and public washrooms. Note that the washrooms are only open during the summer operating season. The remainder of the park is undeveloped and is comprised of mixed forest, thickets, and shrub marsh. Plato Creek runs through the park and a dam at the east edge of the park has created a 0.75 ha pond, which was dredged in 2018 to improve water depth and quality.

A footpath extends from the parking area east along the north side of the pond to the dam and then to the south. It is unknown whether the trail is marked with blazes or regularly maintained.
