Tips for Birding

Butler Pond is not easy to bird. US-2 passes right next to it, which can be dangerous with fast-moving traffic. Park, be careful when crossing the street, and step over the barrier when you can. There are a few spots in the housing development across the street that are not ideal for parking but can normally be used for short-term birding. There is also a studio to the north which has more general parking, and where you can buy lovely glazed pottery (some of which is made by a local birder). Another way to access the pond is to walk along the rail tracks, although, this, too, is dangerous. Despite these difficulties, this is often a useful spot to view birds.
