When you enter the water treatment plant, there is some mixed mesquite hackberry woods on the left (south) side of the road. Scan these woods for woodland species.
Follow the road until it makes a 90° left turn. Do not enter the interior fenced area of the water treatment plant.
Instead go on the left side of the fence, parking anywhere in that area. A good place to park would be close to the first dividing crossover berm.
One can walk out to and then around the three north-south linear ponds.
In December, 2023, the water treatment plant was open on a Sunday. Not sure if this is normal operating hours or not.

Hargesheimer WTP stands for Water Treatment Plant—which is another term for the city's sewage treatment or wastewater treatment.
WTPs are particularly good spots in West Texas and the Texas Panhandle for wintering waterfowl because of the presence of water in an otherwise dry, arid region.
