About this Location

Branch Bridge crosses the Swift River and connects the towns of New Salem and Orange. The bridge was built in 1870 and is one of the oldest surviving metal truss bridges in the state. Branch Bridge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is maintained by the New Salem Highway Department.

The causeway on Branch Bridge Road is regarded as one of the best spots in the North Quabbin region for viewing migratory waterfowl like ring-necked ducks, mergansers, and teals.
