Tips for Birding

This park complex is probably best birded during migration. Park at the cul-de-sac at the east end of Whitfield Dr., cross over to the McMann Park footpath, and follow it north to Nevin Park.

Birds of Interest

This series of parks remains relatively poorly known but offers the potential for observing a variety of species, particularly during spring and fall migration.

About this Location

This hotspot consists of three municipal parks: Golfview Heights, McMann, and Nevin. Golfview Heights Park, accessed off Whitfield Dr., is a small recreational park with manicured lawns, plantings, and a children’s playground. A paved path leads north from Whitfield Dr. into the park. The McMann-Nevin portion of this hotspot can be accessed from the east end of Whitfield Dr. along a trail that joins the footpath along the old Parkway right-of-way, extending around 400 m from Clonsilla Ave. north to Nevin Park. This portion of the hotspot comprises around 9 ha of shrub thickets and young woodland.

Parking is limited, but street parking is available at the cul-de-sac at the east end of Whitfield Dr. in the south or to the north on Whitfield Dr. adjacent to Nevin Park.
