About this Location

Important Bird Area.
About 5 miles west of Highway 69. Take Highway 69 to 200th St and turn west until you get to Elm Lake. 200th St turns north and is renamed Elm Lake Dr and travels the east end of the lake. The public access point at the end of 200th St. provides good scanning of the water and mudflats.

This area of several lakes and privately owned wetlands seems to be a major stopping point for migrating waterfowl and Bald Eagles. A large number of Bald Eagles stayed in the Iowa River - Lake Cornelia - Elm Lake area during the spring of 2002. There are usually 200 or more American White Pelicans on these lakes in both spring and fall.

From Clarion: 4 miles north, 1/2 mile east to Lake Cornelia; 3 miles north, 1.5 miles east to Elm Lake; 7 miles north, 2 miles east to Morris Lake; 5 miles north, 2 miles east to Lower Morris Lake.
