Jessamine Creek Gorge Preserve

About this Location

This is a155 acre Jessamine County nature preserve in the palisades region of the Kentucky River. Very good wildflower spotting spring through fall, and palisade views in winter. Overstreet Creek views are nice.

Jessamine Creek Gorge is an ecologically sensitive area.  Please observe local ordinances and park rules. Stay on the marked trail. No trespassing onto neighboring properties. Don’t leave trash in the preserve.  There is a trash can at the parking lot. Park in the parking lot. Do not park anywhere along the road other than the parking lot. Ignoring the rules may result in the preserve being closed to visitors by Jessamine County Fiscal Court.

Jessamine Creek Gorge Trail: A wooded dirt trail leads down to Overstreet Creek, then back up to top of the gorge where there is an overlook of Jessamine Creek when the leaves aren’t out. Does not go down to Jessamine Creek or the Kentucky River level, so only a moderate elevation change. Be alert for an almost U-turn at the farthest reach of the trail. There will be a U-shaped blaze on a tree (or signs now) and the trail continues at about a 150-degree angle to the right. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. You'll need to leave pups at home — dogs aren't allowed on this trail.
