Exploration Green Official WebsiteGood for birding year-round.
Herons, egrets, and ducks are common. Roseate Spoonbills are a favorite to find, as are recently arrived Limpkins. Expect resident and migrating raptors as well as several woodpecker species.
Phase 1 is the oldest and most established of the five Exploration Green phases of restoration. Water habitat and some mature trees bring a lot of species.

Exploration Green is a community driven restoration/infrastructure project. The location was previously a golf course that is being restored to a community greenspace and set of stormwater retention ponds that can hold up to 500 million gallons of stormwater.
Each phase has a concrete trail that is about 1 mile with 6 miles total across all 5 phases. Trails are wide, flat, and well-maintained. Entrances from parking are sloped down toward the main trail around the pond. Benches are available in this phase, but relatively far apart. There is no shade over the main path until the trees get a bit bigger.
