Tips for Birding

The entrance on Deaner Rd. Is gated and locked. However, access for birders is allowed on foot. There is room for limited roadside parking by the gate, although do not park in the drive and block the gate.
The two-track that leads into the property  leads to a boardwalk that crosses the boreal black spruce/tamarack bog to a dock that overlooks Davis Lake. There is a marked trail (blue blazes) that circles the bog and returns you to the research building (closed to public) and the drive that exits to the gate. There are two other marked trails (red and orange blazes) that explore the forested areas, but these are a bit more difficult to follow. The section of the property that fronts on Crystal Road is a mixture of old field, hedgerow and small stands of trees. There are unmarked game trails that crisscross this area.
