Tips for Birding

From Hwy 190, follow the signs to San Saba River Golf Course and RV park. Continue to follow signs to the Recycling Center. You can drive the roads adjacent to the four ponds and get out and scope. Lots of waterfowl in the winter. Go back the way you came in and follow signs to the Golf Course for woodland species along the river and through a pecan grove with open areas attracting Eastern Bluebird, Meadowlarks, etc.

Birds of Interest

Waterfowl, shorebirds, sparrows, swallows, meadowlark, etc.

About this Location

Note the times open on the photos for the WTP. It is closed on Sunday and has odd hours Tuesday and Saturday. If you are looking for winter waterfowl, the San Saba Wastewater Treatment Plant/Recycle Center, adjacent to the San Saba River Golf Course is a good place to find them. Depending on pond levels and season there may be shorebirds. Ruddy Duck and Black-bellied Whistling Duck can also be found outside of winter.

Notable Trails
