Sarnia--Blackwell Trails Park

Sarnia--Blackwell Trails Park

Tips for Birding

During the winter months, check the pond at the southwestern end of the Park first and then walk the perimeter trail to locate songbirds. During spring and fall migration or the summer months, try to cover as much area as possible to find all of the species present.

Birds of Interest

This is the best place to locate Cackling, Snow, White-fronted and Ross's Goose in the Sarnia area during January and February. About 40 species nest in the Park and many more pass through during migration.

About this Location

This location was previously used for waste disposal. A methane gas collection and burning system is operated as needed, and the south pond is heated in the winter to prevent methane gas buildup under the ice. The open water provides habitat for over-wintering geese and ducks. The trails are gravel covered and very wide but not maintained in the winter. A washroom is available near the tennis courts in Cathcart Park near the northeast corner.
