If you don't have a campsite reserved at Clear Creek Campground, you can still bird the area by parking across NM-126 at the Clear Creek Picnic Area, or parking in the limited number of spots available at the north end of Clear Creek Campground. The campground itself offers access to ponderosa pine forest, and the picnic area has trails that you can walk, and you can use these or just walk east along NM-126 to gain access to a large montane meadow.
Elk and deer in the surrounding forest, fish in the Rio de las Vacas and proximity to San Pedro Parks Wilderness make Clear Creek Campground at 8,500' in elevation a veritable spring, summer, and fall paradise.
There is a fee for camping.
