A playa is a shallow depression that occasionally becomes a shallow lakes with rainfall.
Playas in the Texas Panhandle are a gold mine for birds, especially in the winter.
The county roads around this playa are dirt--mostly sand and clay. Be cautious if there has been recent rains and don't get stuck.
The playa is itself rain dependent and may dry up at times but, because of it's large size, it is a fairly reliable playa.
The playa is on the west side of the north-south county road. So morning birding might be best but, with water, this hotspot is still a good place to bird any time of the day.
Farm tractors can be driving these roads at any time of the year.
None. This is mostly street birding.
