Tips for Birding

The Google Maps directions to this hotspot may not be accurate (it might try to lead you through the private farm). Be sure to turn down Boyd Pond Lane for <.25 mile to the trailhead. There is room for 3-4 cars.

About this Location

Hatchtown Preserve consists of 35 acres along the west side of the Pemaquid River from south of the Hatchtown Bridge on the Lower Round Pond Rd down to the inlet into Boyd Pond. The primary conservation value is the undisturbed habitat along the river's shore. There are also wetlands by the river, wooded uplands, and a vernal pool. The river frontage will be left in a natural state. There is access by water where the blue trail meets the river. Look for lots of wildlife!

From Damariscotta, take ME-130 south to Bristol Mills. Take the left directly after Bristol Town Hall onto Lower Round Pond Road. Travel 1.1 miles and turn right onto Sproul Hill Rd. Go 0.25 miles to the Hatchtown Preserve sign on the left at Boyd Pond Lane. Turn down Boyd Pond Lane and travel to the parking area and kiosk on the left. (A private driveway is to the right.) The trailhead starts at the kiosk.
