Town Landing, Damariscotta

Damariscotta, Maine 04543

About this Location

The Damariscotta Town Landing is a historic site located on the eastern shore of the Great Salt Bay. It was donated to the town by John Borland, a shipbuilder, in 1802. The town later allowed the Knox and  Lincoln Railroad to build tracks through this area. The remains of the wharf can be seen at low tide. Town Landing was once a busy place for shipping and shipbuilding, as many sailing vessels were constructed on both sides of the Damariscotta River in the 19th century. Today, Town Landing offers scenic views of the bay and the bridge that connects Damariscotta with its twin village of Newcastle.
