Birders are welcome at this lovely, peaceful cemetery in Decatur. There is a nice variety of habitat with many old, large trees that attract a variety of birds year-round. Park anywhere along the roads and walk the grounds.
This is one of the easiest places in DeKalb County to find Red-headed Woodpeckers. On any given day, you may spot 5 or more in the large trees throughout the cemetery. In late winter, look for Rusty Blackbirds mixed in the flocks of Blackbirds. Spring brings many migrants, and one of the best areas to spot them is along the creek that flows on the east side and downhill from the cemetery.
This is an old and charming cemetery with amazing headstones and rich history.
Any of the roads inside the cemetery will take you through a variety of different bird species. The small trail along the east edge and downhill from the cemetery may provide a close view of migrants and resident birds.
