Wachusett Reservoir Official WebsiteScar Hill Road is a scenic route that leads to the Wachusett Reservoir. One of the best spots to enjoy the reservoir is Scar Hill Bluffs, a rocky outcrop that overlooks the deep water. The bluffs can be reached by following a dirt road from the end of Scar Hill Road, where there is a cemetery and a small parking area. The hike is about 1.5 miles round trip and has some moderate inclines.

Wachusett Reservoir, along with the Quabbin Reservoir and Ware River, is an unfiltered source of high-quality water for the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority water supply system. The 65-billion-gallon reservoir covers 108 square miles with 37 miles of shoreline. Recreational activities are regulated and limited to protect 3 million people’s drinking water.
