The Riverway, which serves as a border between Boston and Brookline, is a narrow 34-acre park with paths that follow the meandering course of the Muddy River. It winds past internationally known medical, cultural, and educational institutions. With more than 100,000 plantings, this park was designed by Olmsted to look like it had always been there, a natural, not man-made, landscape. It is also home to some of the most beautiful bridges in the Emerald Necklace, many designed by the firm of H.H. Richardson, the famed 19th-century architect responsible for Trinity Church in Copley Square. It contains the historic Bridle Path, once used by equestrians, as well as a beautiful stone gazebo at the Chapel Street Bridge.
