About this Location

Thurman W. Dix Reservoir was formed by damming Orange Brook, four miles east of Barre. It covers an area of 123 acres and is named after Thurman W. Dix (1886-1974), a former Barre City Engineer and Superintendent of the Street and Water Departments. The reservoir hosts a variety of waterfowl. The reservoir is also surrounded by forests and hills, including Cobble Hill and the Barre City Municipal Forest.

Thurman W. Dix Reservoir (123 acres) is a site for the Vermont LoonWatch annual survey. Birders are encouraged to volunteer as often and whenever they are able. See Join LoonWatch for details.
