Stafford Pond

About this Location

Stafford Pond is a large, 480-acre reservoir, one of the larger reservoirs in the state of Rhode Island. There are a few large coves at the north end but for the most part, the pond is broad and open. At almost 2 miles long and over half a mile wide, it hardly fits the usual image of a "pond." The west shore is largely wooded, but the east side is more built up. There is a cement plank boat ramp and a gravel parking lot at the put-in. For boats launched from the state boat ramp, the motor must be under 10hp (or electric). This regulation apparently does not apply to boats operated from privately owned access points on the lake.

Driving Landmarks: From Route 24 north or south in Massachusetts take Exit 1A for Adamsville, RI and Route 81 south. This will put you on William S Canning Blvd/Route 81 south. In 0.6 miles William S Canning Blvd will merge with Stafford Road. Follow Stafford Road/Route 81 south for another 2.1 miles and take a hard right onto Old Stafford Road. Go 300 feet up Stafford Road and look for the parking lot for the boat ramp on your left.
