Poor Farm Swamp is a wetland area located in the town of Amherst. It covers about 40 acres. The swamp was named after the poor farm that operated on the site from 1828 to 1928, providing shelter and work for the destitute and disabled. The swamp is now part of the Amherst Conservation Area and is open to the public for hiking, birdwatching, and nature study.
