Upper Pequawket Pond covers an area of 120 acres and has a maximum depth of 15 feet. The lake is part of the Pequawket Brook watershed, which flows into the Saco River. The lake has a history of being used by the Pequawket tribe, who lived in the area before the arrival of European settlers. The name Pequawket means "crooked place" or "land of many turns" in the Abenaki language.
