This area of several lakes and privately owned wetlands seems to be a major stopping point for migrating waterfowl and Bald Eagles. A large number of Bald Eagles stayed in the Iowa River - Lake Cornelia - Elm Lake area during the spring of 2002. There are usually 200 or more American White Pelicans on these lakes in both spring and fall.
