Legacy Park is notable for its diverse habitat, including a small open orchard perfect for warblers during migration and red-headed woodpeckers year-round, a small pond, lots of low-lying brush, open fields for a variety of sparrows, riparian forest and a marshy bog with lots of dead trees.

Red-headed woodpeckers, over-wintering white-crowned sparrow, lots of spring/fall migrants.

Legacy Park was converted from the United Methodist Children's Home to a City of Decatur public park in 2017. There are plans to build a large sports track on the property that will eliminate the open fields, but much of the property is protected.
