About this Location

Located at the west end of Apache Avenue, the entrance to the City of Bethlehem is also the entrance to Climax Canyon Park.  Parking is currently on the street. Hike through the gate and up the road to the trailhead on the southwest end of the road.

This three-mile, figure-eight trail explores the pinyon pine-juniper hills on the western flank of Raton. The canyon walls host nesting ravens and singing canyon wrens. The trail offers great views of Raton and nearby mesas. Trail maps are available at the trailhead, and three Boy Scout-installed benches are found along the trail, including at the overlook.

From downtown Second Street in Raton, turn west (uphill) on Apache Avenue and go six blocks to the park entrance.
