Tips for Birding

Please click on the photos in order to read the captions, as it is all explained there. Avoiding popular hunting times is probably a good idea. It is not a large area but will still take 2-4 hours to cover the roads and lake. It could be dangerous to wander off into the swamp, and with the ninety-degree bend in the road, the majority of this area can be covered from the road, so please bird from roads only and do not trespass.

Birds of Interest

With the swamp, lake, woods, nearby upland fields, and tangled thickets, a large species list is possible. Woodpeckers for sure. There are some nice thickets around the intersection CR 3412 & CR 3417.

About this Location

This location is isolated, wild, and rarely visited by birders. If you encounter anyone, show them the hotspot and take extra time to explain to them why your there. Birding should be from the roads only.   I would not bird this area at the start of hunting season or on the first few weekends of hunting season. This area very well could act as a migrant trap, and in my opinion, holds lots of potential.

Notable Trails

No trails. Just bird from the roads, which have the potential to be extremely muddy.
