DAR State Forest

About this Location

Daughters of the American Revolution State Forest is a public forest in Massachusetts that was donated by the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1929. It covers 1,728 acres of land, mostly in Goshen and partly in Ashfield. The forest features two lakes, Upper and Lower Highland Lakes, that offer swimming, fishing, boating, and picnicking opportunities. The forest has 15 miles of trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing.

Daily parking fees are charged from May 14 through Labor Day.

Notable Trails

DAR's 15 miles of trails include hikes for all experience levels. Try the Highland Lake Trail or go up to the DAR Fire Tower.

The accessible Highland Lake Trail features a one-half-mile stabilized stone dust trail that travels through the woods alongside Upper Highland Lake. Includes benches, a fishing pier, and lakeside views.

The AllTrails website has a description and map of a hike at DAR State Forest.
