Tucson, Arizona 85712
Official WebsiteThis was selected as a hotspot because it's an excellent location for observing the spring spectacle of migrating vultures lifting off on March mornings. Occasional Zone-tailed and Common Black hawks accompany them. During fall migration smaller numbers of vultures arrive in the afternoon. There are concrete benches available but a portable chair is helpful for longer sessions. A spotting scope can help to identify distant raptors. At other times it provides access to the paved multi-use path that is very popular with bicyclists, dog walkers and pedestrians. Typical birds of a usually dry desert wash are present. Purple Martins use the high power lines in the fall.
This hotspot is intended for use for birding along the path, within a half mile or so of the named location. Longer walks can be placed in personal locations mapped near the midpoint of the birder's route.
Migrating Turkey Vultures and small numbers of raptors.
