There is a bird blind that overlooks the water treatment plant. There is a parking lot for Ft. Martin Scott but you can drive down the gravel road to the bird blind and nature trail. This is primarily a winter birding spot.
Ring-necked ducks, Lesser Scaup. American Wigeon, Ruddy Duck, Spotted Sandpiper, Killdeer
Don't turn into the WTP. Turn in on the road next to Ft. Martin Scott. The bird blind was built by the Fredericksburg Rotary Club. There is also a nature trail associated with Ft. Martin Scott right past the bird blind.
WTP stands for Water Treatment Plant—which is another term for the city's sewage treatment or wastewater treatment.
WTPs are particularly good spots in the dry regions of Texas for wintering waterfowl because of the presence of water in an otherwise dry, arid region.
