The Sims Lane hotspot refers to the general area around Sims Lane and Sims Lane Cutoff Roads. This area is all private property, but the road is public. Being a sod farm, this is one of the best shorebird-focused hotspots around.
Shorebirds, raptors. During the spring and fall, after a rain, the fields will be filled with thousands of shorebirds. Rarities such as Ruff, Mountain Plover, and White-tailed Hawk have all occurred here. All species of herons are fairly easy to find, and one can get plenty of practice on shorebird id here.
Everything except the main road is private property. The small road that goes into the fields by the Fortex office is private, but birders are allowed to drive it if they do not impede workers, do not leave ruts, and do not park on the grass. Please be respectful of these rules. Generally, local birders do not drive the side road if anyone is working in the fields at all.
