Monroe State Forest covers more than 4,000 acres of land in the towns of Monroe and Florida. It is a popular destination for hiking, camping, and enjoying nature. The forest has several trails that offer scenic views of the valleys, waterfalls, and mountains in the area. The forest was once home to several farms and mills in the 19th century. Some of the old stone walls and cellar holes can still be seen along the trails.
The Dunbar Brook Trail follows a clear stream through a hemlock gorge.
