Ski Apache Ski Valley

About this Location

Ski Apache is a popular alpine ski facility located near Sierra Blanca. It offers downhill ski opportunities in the winter, access to the White Mountain Wilderness Area trails, and views from the Lookout Vista Observation Site.

Follow NM-48 north out of Ruidoso for 4 miles, and turn west (left) on NM-532 to the very end (about 12 miles). This road is steep with some very sharp turns, heavy braking is needed going downhill. Chains may be required in the winter months for safety.

The facilities are operated under a US Forest Service permit by the Mescalero Apache Nation.

The Lincoln National Forest has not one, but three major mountain ranges: Sacramento, Guadalupe, and Capitan that cover 1.1 million acres in southeastern New Mexico. Elevations range from 4,000 to 11,500 feet and pass through five life zones from the Chihuahuan desert to the sub-alpine forest. It offers a range of recreational activities including hiking, picnicking, mountain biking, camping, and dirt bike riding. It is also home to Smokey Bear who was found on the Lincoln National Forest in 1950.
