Tips for Birding

A spotting scope is necessary to enjoy the birding here to its fullest potential.

The best way to bird this location is to scan the open water from the beach (especially at low tide), or from the parking lot, with a spotting scope.

This location will likely be more productive during storms when winds and/or rain encourage birds to drop down from the sky and fly into the bay.

Parking Info:

This location is best birded in the early morning, late evening, or during the off-season when beach going crowds are not prevalent; available parking spaces are likely to be lacking here in the height of summer.

Birds of Interest

Winter season visitors to Corporation Beach are likely to encounter a variety of ocean dependent waterbirds. While scanning the breakwater rocks, birders will likely locate flocks of Common Eiders, Scoters, Loons, Grebes, and various species of Gulls. Additional diving & dabbling ducks can be, and are often, spotted here atop the tidal flat pool in front of the parking area & the open waters of Cape Cod Bay. To the trained eye, scanning the breakwater rocks may (on occasion) reveal Purple Sandpipers and/or Ruddy Turnstones. Pelagic species are possible here, especially during weather events; those willing to brave the conditions may spot Shearwaters, Storm-petrels, Gannets, and other seafaring species in flight above the bay. At low tide during any point of the year look carefully along the shorelines, and the tidal flat situated in front of the parking lot, for various species of shorebirds
