About this Location

Belle Isle Cemetery was established in 1634 as the burial ground for the first settlers of the area, and it is one of the oldest cemeteries in the state. The cemetery contains about 600 graves, some of which date back to the 17th century. The cemetery is notable for its scenic location on a hill overlooking Boston Harbor, as well as its variety of tombstones and monuments, reflecting the different eras and styles of the past four centuries. The cemetery is open to the public and offers guided tours by appointment.

Belle Isle Cemetery is located at the end of Kennedy Drive adjacent to Short Beach Creek.

Winthrop Compost Dump processes organic waste into compost. The facility accepts yard waste, food scraps, paper products, and other biodegradable materials from residents and businesses. The compost produced by the facility is used for landscaping, gardening, and agriculture.
