Mount Monadnock is the highest peak in Cheshire County and the most prominent mountain in southern New Hampshire. The name Monadnock comes from an Abenaki word meaning "mountain that stands alone". The mountain has a bald summit that offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, including the Boston skyline and Mount Washington on clear days. Mount Monadnock has several trails of varying difficulty that lead to the top, starting from different towns such as Jaffrey and Dublin. The most common route is the White Dot Trail, which begins at the Monadnock State Park headquarters in Jaffrey. The park also has a visitor center, a park store, and camping facilities. Mount Monadnock is one of the most climbed mountains in the world, attracting hikers of all ages and abilities throughout the year.

Monadnock State Park is open year-round unless closed or restricted by posting. While the staff is present around the park daily, limited visitor services and amenities are provided and day-use fees are required through the winter season only on weekends and holidays.
