Walk the trail, watch out for bikes. This is a nice riparian forest that can be excellent for passerine migrants and common woodland breeders.
In addition to the more common woodland breeders, locally uncommon species like Pileated Woodpecker and Prothonotary and Yellow-throated Warbler occur here. Cerulean Warbler is occasionally found in spring and early summer.
There are Sycamore Access parking lots on the east side of the Des Moines River on both sides of NW 66th Avenue. The Neal Smith Trail runs north and south from these parking lots.
