IKEA Mill Creek Pond

IKEA Mill Creek Pond

9500 IKEA Way West Chester Township, Ohio 45069

Tips for Birding

A Great Blue Heron rookery can be easily observed from the IKEA parking lot, looking out across the water to the opposite side. Later in the spring, Double-crested Cormorants will also perch and nest here and, on occasion, a Great Egret. There have been a few recent reports of Bald Eagles stopping through to perch and hunt. No signs yet of any nesting activity. Common Loon, Pied-billed Grebe, and Horned Grebe have been seen on the pond.

Birders should use care parking here as it is an active business. Pull in and stop along the road near the fence (about halfway between the entrance and the cargo lot) or park in a nearby spot and walk over to the fence. The opposite side of the pond (near the Great Blue Heron rookery) is private property. Please do not try to view birds from that side.

A scope, telephoto lens, or decent zoom are useful at this location. The majority of birds are either on the water near the opposing side or on the edge of the opposing side.
