Tips for Birding

Drive the road up towards the observatories and when you reach the T in the road you can go to the peak to the right, which is higher and has more Emory Oak habitat. The grass underneath the oaks can be good for roosting Montezuma Quail, plus some high altitude specialties like Townsend's Solitaire, Hepatic Tanager & Western Tanager, and Black-headed Grosbeak. Plus be on the look out for Zone-tailed Hawk. The peak to the left is more grassy and open, great for Western Bluebird & winter sparrows.

Birds of Interest

Montezuma Quail, Golden Eagle, Zone-tailed Hawk, Cassin's Kingbird, Bushtit, White-brested Nuthatch, Rock Wren, Western Bluebird, Dark-eyed Junco, Rufous-crowned Sparrow, Green-tailed and Spotted Towhee, Scott's Oriole. Hepatic & Western Tanager, Black-headed & Blue Grosbeak.
