Bennett Slough

Bennett Slough

Moss Landing, California 95039

Tips for Birding

This slough is on private property, so one views it from Struve Road. There is a dirt pull-out under a stand of eucalyptus on the east side of Strive Road, just south of Giberson Road. There is agricultural land between the road and the slough, so a scope is very helpful here, and a necessity to view the more parts of the visible slough.

Birds of Interest

This is a regular location for Redhead in Monterey County from about October through May. There is one record of breeding Redhead from here (fledglings seen). Regular species include Gadwall, Northern Shoveler, and Black-necked Stint. There is a wilow patch just south of the pullout that may have passerine migrants in season.

About this Location

Although Highway 1 forms the east edge of the wetlands, the Highway is much too busy and there are no pull-outs, so you must view from Struve Road.
