Winter and spring are excellent for ducks and spring and fall the ponds may have plenty of sandpipers (e.g., White-rumped, Baird's, Semipalmated, Upland, Buff-breasted) and American Golden-Plovers. Wooded ponds sometimes host rarities such as Vermilion Flycatcher or Ringed Kingfisher.
Witter Lane provides some of the best roadside birding in Bell County. Cattle ponds provide habitat for waterfowl and shorebirds while open fields invite sparrows, sandpipers, meadowlark, and raptors. Park on the shoulder anywhere along the 1.3-mi stretch of road between FM93 and the dead end and scope out the ponds and fields.
