Naval Support Activity Monterey & Del Monte Lake (Restricted Access)

Tips for Birding

There is no general public access to this Hot Spot, which is entirely fenced with manned gates as a U.S. Navy facility. Access is limited to military and civilian personnel that work or reside there, except during authorized visits by others. Del Monte Lake has a colony of breeding Double-crested Cormorants, and hosts wintering ducks, but views are from the sidewalk along Del Monte Avenue, looking through the fence. The area is patrolled and birders have been harassed for using binoculars to look at the lake.
