Tips for Birding

On the main path leading northeast straight towards the river, you encounter "the meadow" on your right. There are more wetlands among the smaller paths to the left (north) from this main path. Furthest to the right (southeast), the trail follows a creek forming the boundary of the neighboring golf course. The trails to the left (northwest) connect to the next hot spot in this group, the Pony Pasture. There is also a trail close to the river's edge, with partial views across the river in several places.

Birds of Interest

Among the many species breeding here are Barred Owls, White-eyed Vireos, Common Yellowthroats, Prothonotary Warblers, and Yellow-throated Warblers.

About this Location

The Wetlands is a long-time favorite of Richmond birders. A series of narrow footpaths criss-crosses the area, with a few main thoroughfares (wider and well maintained paths).
