The Sheepscot River flows for 66 miles from its source in Freedom to its mouth at Sheepscot Bay. Along the way, it passes through several towns, lakes, ponds, and streams, and forms a complex island estuary with connections to the Kennebec River. The river is also popular for recreational activities such as birding, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, hunting, swimming, and skiing.
