Towle Memorial Park

Tips for Birding

To get good photos of wild waterfowl, you will likely need a zoom camera lens. The pond is not too large, but good binoculars are necessary for viewing small shorebirds on the opposite side.

Birds of Interest

  • Ruddy Ducks can nearly always be seen in small groups out on the water.
  • Black-necked Stilts are reported once or twice a year in the shallows of the pond directly across the street from the public pool.
  • Great Blue Herons can be hard to spot because they usually like to tuck themselves into a hard-to-reach location. They are a very common visitor, however.

About this Location

Towle Memorial Park has two playgrounds, a splash pad, exercise equipment, picnic tables, and a barbeque pit. This is not a good location to bird around the 4th of July (parade/carnival) or the first weekend of May (large car show) due to very large community events that occur in the park at those times.

Notable Trails

There is a cement walking path that winds through the park. It is 9/10 of a mile long. Bathrooms are located at the east end of the park and near the east end of the pond. There is another set of restrooms near the baseball fields (west end of park), but they are not often open.

Features

  • Restrooms on site

  • Wheelchair accessible trail
