Tips for Birding

This is a private property along FM 666 just north of FM 624. There is a wide grassy shoulder with plenty of space to pull over, and a broad paved driveway with a gate. The pond is dependent on rainfall, but there is usually always water in it, and it's sometimes quite deep. There is vegetation and lots of snags along the edges.

Birds of Interest

Wading birds plus year-round resident Black-bellied Whistling Ducks and wintering ducks; Anhinga and Belted Kingfishers. Ringed Kingfisher has been reported from here. Common Yellow-throats and winter sparrows in the grasses and shrubs on shore. It is used as a rookery in the spring with white egrets sprinkled through the trees.
