The Walter-Newton Natural area is tucked on the tail of a dirt road outside downtown Plymouth. I couldn’t wait to explore it, especially when I heard it features a waterfall, Rainbow Falls, only 0.6 miles down the Walter trail.
The terrain at Walter-Newton is mostly flat and easy hiking. There are a lot of other trails that feed off the main loop, however, I stuck to the Ruth Walter Trail (0.6 miles) and took Newton back around after I saw the falls. It took me about twelve minutes to reach Rainbow Falls, at my usual leisurely pace. The Newton trail on the other side of the loop is a little steeper and just a little longer (0.9 miles).
The Trail Finder website and the AllTrails website have descriptions and maps of a hike at Walter-Newton Natural Area.
