There are a couple different viewing areas for this Hotspot. On a satellite map it is possible to see a couple of the gravel parking lots that are maintained by the Missouri Department of Conservation. These are good viewing areas for the lake and wetland type areas around it. The different views give good diversity to see birds well with good lighting from different angles. The southern access is best for viewing birds in the morning and has the best view of the whole area. There are three areas on the north side of the water that have a view of slightly different portions of the area as a whole.
This is a very popular area for shorebirds and has very good numbers during migration. It can also have large numbers of waterfowl and is one of the best spots in the state for overwintering gulls. There are some other passerine birds that can be seen like at the southern entrance there is a good amount of wooded area surrounding the parking lot.
The parking lots are all maintained by MDC and in good shape for the most part. 37.534765, 93.544282 these are the coordinates to the southern parking lot which is probably the best for viewing the majority of the mudflat.
No trails but for one of the northern access points there is a little bit of a walk to get to the water.
